I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside James and Kerrie Photography on a few occasions now and each time it’s a real pleasure. I’m delighted to feature my latest blog on this husband and wife photography duo and hopefully by the end, you’ll get to know them a little better and find out all about what they do!
Tell us a little about you both – where are you based, how did you come to be photographers, where did you meet, what was your wedding day like?
We met on a dating site (just like a lot of our couples!) back in 2006. James was living in Somerset and Kerrie was in London, after weeks of speaking over the phone, we finally met at Paddington Station for our first date, we spent the whole day exploring London, from a trip on the London Eye to a wander around Borough Market, and a quick trip to Tower Bridge, where James actually proposed 8 months later!!!
We both shared a love of Greece so would visit there regularly for our summer holidays. We never relished the idea of a wedding in England as we both love the hot weather and know you are never guaranteed that at home! We both agreed we would love to have a relaxed wedding day on the beach in Greece so we started researching locations!! Kerrie had previously visited Zakynthos with her family and remembered a nice hotel where they held weddings, so we planned a trip out there in 2009. When we walked into the hotel, we didn’t get a feel for it at all! We were really disappointed! We left and I recalled there was a beach bar just down the road so we headed there for lunch. As we were sitting by the sea, we noticed a platform over the sea in this pretty little horse-shoe bay, we asked the waiter if weddings were held there, and he said they were!!! We both looked at each other and we knew that’s where we wanted to get married. We spoke to the hotels wedding co-ordinator and it all sounded perfect, we were sold! The very next day we went and bought our wedding rings at a local jeweller. When we landed home, we made some enquiries and booked a date in for the following year.
We got married on the 10th June 2010 at the Alexandra beach Hotel in Tsilivi, Zakynthos. All our friends and family flew out to share the day with us. We spent the night before the wedding together, in the morning we had a lovely breakfast over-looking the sea and a couple of hours sunbathing on the beach until James left to go to his parent’s hotel to get ready. Kerrie arrived on a horse and carriage before making her way to join James on the platform over the sea. Our wedding co-ordinator translated everything the Greek registrar was saying and before we knew it, we were husband and wife!! After a ride around the little town of Tsilivi on the horse & carriage, went onto our evening reception in the beach bar. It really was the perfect day, looking back now the only thing we said we would change, is we would have had a lot more florals!
We began our photography journey way back on 2013. James has always done photography as a hobby, but after a trip to Turkey where a local photographer took some really amazing photos of us, James wanted to learn how to use his camera in-depth so he started watching every YouTube video and photography class he could! Friends of ours reached out to James in 2013 asking if he would photograph their wedding in Italy, he jumped at the chance! James gave Kerrie a crash course in photography and asked her to second shoot for him on the wedding day, and the rest, as they say, is history!
How would you describe your style of photography?
Our photography style is documentary with a very natural approach. Simply put, we want to blend into the background for the majority of your day so you can relax and enjoy the day as much as possible with your friends and family, but we also encourage you to grab a few family portraits and of course, plan time for photos of just the two of you!! We photograph in a very relaxed way and we try to make it as fun as possible! We love Country weddings that are full of colour and florals, it’s one of the reasons we moved to the Somerset in 2019 as we are spoilt for choice with fantastic wedding venues here in the South West, we love using nature as a back drop and for inspiration for your wedding photos!
What services do you offer to your couples?
We currently offer 3 wedding photography packages with the choice of either 6, 8 or 10 hours coverage. That way our couples have the choice of how much of the day they want photographed, you may have a very late ceremony time or you may not want photos whilst you are getting ready, every single wedding day is different so we like to give our couples a few options to suit them next. Our prices start from £1000 and you always get two photographers on the day, an on-line gallery with at least 400 images for you to download and share with your family and friends.
What can a couple expect from James and Kerrie Photography on the day of their wedding?
When you book with James and Kerrie Photography, we deliver what we like to call the ‘JK Experience’. Not only do you get two friendly, smiley photographers to photograph your day in a natural, unobtrusive way, but you also get support in the lead up. We send all our couples a welcome video packed full of top tips, and we also send JK Guides at different stages throughout the planning process full of expert advice.
On wedding day, Kerrie tends to typically stay with the bride and bridesmaids whilst James will go to the guys, that way we can cover both of you getting ready, we really can be in two places at once! Throughout the wedding day we will cover different angles so we can show your day from two perspectives, Kerrie loves all the little details of the day and James loves to capture the guests.
You’ve recently started up a brand-new wedding blog. Tell us a little more about that. What gave you the idea to start a new blog, what are your hopes for the blog and how can couples access it?
Oh, we are so excited for our newest venture, our very own UK wedding blog, Botanical Weddings UK! We have thought about starting a wedding blog for a long time, 2020 gave us the opportunity to start it, we had a very soft launch in November, but we have some huge plans for Botanical Weddings UK for 2021 and beyond! We get inspired by nature so you can expect to see weddings full of florals and natural greenery, we are all about bringing the inside in and using the seasons as inspiration for your wedding day. We also adore pretty tablescape and the finer details so expect lots of pretty! We also have so much knowledge and advice to share after photographing weddings for 7 years, and we want to start sharing that advice through our wedding blog. We hope your readers will join us on the journey!
